May Bank Holiday 2016
May 1st Bank Holiday A rainy day of course !
Members met by St Chad’s Church to start a very interesting guided walk around Georgian Shrewsbury. Stan Sedman was our guide for the morning. He started by explaining how the beautiful St Chad’s building came to be built. One of only 10 round churches in the country. The walk took in the many Georgian buildings including Shrewsbury’s own Crescent (situated on the town walls). Belmont with the many grand houses was of special interest. One of the properties had a frontage (only one brick wide) covering a Tudor building thus increasing the owners standing in the town.
Stan was able to point out so many features and points of interest. Even those of us who thought they knew Shrewsbury well found this a very interesting walk.
We then continued to the White Horse where 27 members sat down to a very good Roast lunch.
